Postman Jack Lee-Shield of Jubilee Place, Middleton-in-Teesdale, retired after walking 100,000 miles with his mail in 25 years.
He had only 25 customers on his beat but they were so far flung that he had a daily trudge of 14 miles 2 furlongs to reach them.
Postman John Lee-Sheild, grandson of the late Jack Lee-Sheild, started his Post Office career in Jack's foot-steps delivering to Middleton-in-Teesdale.
John currently delivers a town walk in Barnard Castle. In all weathers, he also performs collections in the Baldesdale area Monday to Friday evenings.
he is now 65.
